Katie Walsh
Katie Walsh, RYT, Calming Kids Certified Instructor, and MA/Ed., has been teaching yoga for over 20 years. A former fitness instructor, competitive runner, and cyclist, Katie was drawn to yoga through injuries and a personal quest for spiritual well-being. Her primary practice was rooted in Anusara Yoga, guided by master teachers Desiree Rumbaugh, Christy Burnett, and Christina Sell—an experience for which she is both fortunate and deeply grateful.
In addition, Katie has studied at the Kripalu Yoga Institute with Shiva Rea and Kundalini master Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa. She received her RYT certification from the Yandara Yoga Institute in Todos Santos, Baja. Katie also previously served as co-owner and co-founder of Yogadurango.
Off the mat, Katie is a lifelong educator with over 40 years of experience teaching elementary and middle school students across Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico. She is well-known in local school communities for sharing her passion for yoga and her deep commitment to children’s well-being.
As an ambassador for the Calming Kids program, she integrates yoga principles with anti-bullying education. Katie also contributed for several years to the Wanderlust Yoginos program.
Katie finds the most rewarding aspect of her teaching is watching her students—and fellow gurus—grow through personal and physical transformation.
She believes that the challenges we face on the mat often reflect those we encounter in daily life. As a breast cancer survivor, Katie feels a deep connection to the healing, motivation, and insight that yoga offers. Through her continued practice and teaching, she has come to believe that transformation is a process, not a single event.
Katie also believes that a consistent yoga practice helps us recognize our true grace and fosters a deeper connection to ourselves, each other, and our communities. Originally a Durango native, Katie continues to embrace every outdoor adventure the San Juan Mountains have to offer.
